Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports - Manitoba Moose's Kyle Capobianco wins AHL Defenseman of the Year Award

Manitoba Moose defenseman Kyle Capobianco was announced as the winner of the Eddie Shore Award Wednesday, rewarded to the AHL's most outstanding defenseman.

A native of Mississauga, Ont., Capobianco spent the entire season playing for the Moose, where he finished with an impressive 12 goals and 42 assists for 54 points in 69 games. The production was good enough to led all AHL blue liners in points.

A 2015 third-round pick (63rd overall) of the Arizona Coyotes, Capobianco spent seven years in the organization before departing for the Winnipeg Jets as a free agent prior to the 2022-23 season.

Despite having spent the entire season with Jets last year (only seeing 14 games), Capobianco did not spend any time with the big club this season despite his performance.

After the Moose lost the first game of their first-round series against the Texas Stars on Tuesday, they will look to keep their season alive tonight in the best of three series. If the Moose have any chance to advance, Capobianco will be a major contributor.
