The Winnipeg Jets continue to ride netminder Connor Hellebuyck having allowed just 1.67 goals per game since the 4 Nations Face-Off Break. After the underdogs took a big bite of the favorites on the NHL's first night back after the 4 Nations Face-Off break, the pups have been put in their kennel and kept relatively quiet.
Underdogs went 9-5 on Saturday, returning 3.9 units if you put the same amount on every team catching the plus-price.
Since then, however, favorites have gone 21-6 with a return of +106.5 units.
Though it's only a short sample size over the past five days, the teams making the biggest statements out of the break have been the Toronto Maple Leafs and Winnipeg Jets, both going 3-0-0.
While the Leafs have been getting it done with an explosive offense that is averaging 5.33 goals per game since Saturday, the Jets continue to ride the Vezina-like season of netminder Connor Hellebuyck having allowed just 1.67 goals per contest.
In all, eight teams have yet to suffer a loss, with six others going 2-0-0 since the break.
A few of surprises, of those six teams, include the Montreal Canadiens, Philadelphia Flyers, Buffalo Sabres and Columbus Blue Jackets - all teams to keep an eye on as long as they have the wild-card race in sight and as long as they're catching a plus price.
On the other side of the spectrum, eight teams remain winless since the regular resumed, the most shocking likely being the Edmonton Oilers.
Connor McDavid, fresh off his game-winning goal for Canada in the 4 Nations final, has seen his Oilers lose all three games since then and tonight take a four-game skid into the arena where they lost Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final last summer.
As we approach the weekend, the smart teams to observe would be those within a handful of points in the wild-card race in their respective conference, provided they've been winning or losing in competitive tight games.
For instance, the Canadiens are 2-0-0 since Saturday and sit just five points back of the second wild-card slot. They host the San Jose Sharks tonight, and play a home-and-home with the surging Sabres on Saturday and Monday.
If Montreal can win two of those three and even pull at least one point from every game, it'll be worth watching its prices during a four-game road trip if it continues to play as we've seen with 4.50 goals per game during its 2-0-0 streak.
From the Western Conference, the St. Louis Blues have gone 2-0-1 since play resumed, they're scoring 4.33 goals per game and they're five points back of the second wild-card spot. The Blues have their hands full tonight in the nation's capital against the Eastern Conference-leading Washington Capitals, and then host the Pacific Division-contending Los Angeles Kings before an extensive and treacherous six-game road trip.
Plenty of things to consider as prices are going up with some teams, but value is increasing in the dog pound.
Choose your spots wisely.
