The Edmonton Oilers have acquired defenceman Jake Walman from the San Jose Sharks for a conditional first-round forward Carl Berglund, according to multiple reports.
The Oilers were in the market for blueline help and it seems they'll get it with Walman. The 29-year-old Toronto native has made an impact with the Sharks, recording 32 points in 50 games this season, which placed him fifth on the team in points.
The former Providence Friar has continually improved over recent years playing 19 or more minutes each of the last two seasons before totalling 23 minutes on average with San Jose this season.
After bumping his point production from ten to 20 to now 30 but on track for 40 points this season, he appears to be a solid addition to the Oilers blueline and could add unexpected offence that many may not initially see coming from this deal. This could be a small add that improves the Oilers on a greater scale as they've allowed 33 goals over their last seven games.
Edmonton was the favourite to win the Stanley Cup for most of the season but they just recently dropped in odds after losing nine of their last 12 games.
This could present a perfect buy-in chance for the Oilers as their odds won't get any lower and will make +650 the best number that will be available for some time.
