David Perron to make his Pittsburgh Penguins debut

David Perron will make his Pittsburgh Penguins debut Saturday against the Montreal Canadiens and should provide the Penguins top line with an offensive spark alongside Sidney Crosby and Chris Kunitz.

David Perron will make his Pittsburgh Penguins debut against the Montreal Canadiens Saturday.

The Penguins acquired the forward from the Edmonton Oilers on Friday for Rob Klinkhammer and a first-round pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.

The 26-year-old Perron was unhappy in Edmonton as they struggled through another abysmal season and the trade to Pittsburgh could certainly help rejuvenate the scoring touch of the Sherbrooke, Que. native.

The talented Perron had 19 points, five of which were goals, in 38 games for the Oilers before the trade, but he still possesses the ability to hit mesh like in the video below:

"Obviously the excitement level of going from a team that’s not going to make the [Stanley Cup] playoffs to a team that certainly will make the playoffs and make a run at the Cup is extremely special to me," Perron told NHL.com. "As a player, once you've played a few years in the league, all you start to worry about is winning hockey games and I just try to come in, do my part, work hard and fit in with the team."

Perron will start on the top line alongside Sidney Crosby and Chris Kunitz, a spot that Patric Hornqvist had found major success on since coming to Pittsburgh from the Nashville Predators prior to the season. Hornqvist currently sits second on the team in goals and is sidelined with an upper-body injury.

If you take a look at the numbers of Hornqvist and Perron, Hornqvist was more of a scoring threat in his non-Penguins playing days compared to Perron, with four 20-goal seasons and a 30-goal season under his belt, but Perron still notched three 20-goal seasons of his own and has the reputation as a player who can light the red lamp, so he may be able to replicate the success of Hornqvist on the top line.

The Penguins have a tough task ahead of them on Saturday as they play the Canadiens who are winners of their last five games, but the addition of Perron should certainly give the Penguins an extra offensive spark.
