Predators goalie Carter Hutton didn't have his best night Tuesday between Nashville's pipe, but his astonishing late-game save against the Maple Leafs is a clear frontrunner for the NHL's save of the season.
Predators goalie Carter Hutton didn't have his best game against Toronto Tuesday night, surrendering a soft go-ahead goal to Maple Leafs forward Mike Santorelli early in the third period. But after his team regained the lead in front of a raucous home crowd, Hutton preserved the win by making arguably the best save any NHL goalie has made this season.
With Nashville hanging onto a one-goal lead and just three minutes left to play in regulation time, Hutton first got some help from the post on a Daniel Winnik shot. But on the secondary scoring opportunity, a wobbly and redirected puck gets past him and Hutton twists backward and somehow bats the puck away to prevent what would have been a surefire goal:
Hutton and the Preds hung on to register a 4-3 victory and set a new franchise record with their ninth consecutive home win. And if any goalie is going to beat Hutton's acrobatics to make a better save, they're going to need to perform some kind of Cirque du Soleil routine as they do so.
