Did you love the Coyotes original jersey? Do you wish it would come back? Well, you’re in luck, because on March 5, the Coyotes will wear their original jerseys for one night only when they host the Vancouver Canucks.
What’s old is new again. First, it was the Islanders fisherman jersey, now it’s the Coyotes original Kachina-style jerseys.
The Arizona Coyotes announced today that on March 5 when the team hosts the Vancouver Canucks for what they’re calling Throwback Night, they will wear the same jerseys they wore all the way back in 1996. That’s right, those same, strange jerseys the team wore when it made its move from Winnipeg to Phoenix to become the Coyotes.
But the throwback theme doesn’t end there, as the Coyotes plan to have Jeremy Roenick drop the puck for the opening faceoff, as well as giving the first 5,000 fans in attendance a free Roenick Kachina-jersey bobblehead.
Roenick was one of the original Coyotes, suiting up for the team in the 1996-97 season and potting 29 goals and 69 points in 72 games for the first-year team.
The Coyotes made the playoffs in five of the seven seasons they wore the unique black jerseys, which they donned until the 2003-04 season.
