Jersey worn by Mighty Ducks' fictional star Adam Banks up for grabs in Hollywood auction

A piece of fictional hockey history is up for grabs as the screen-used and “game-worn” jersey of Mighty Ducks star Adam Banks has found its way to auction. The jersey, worn in the first film by Vincent Larusso, won’t come cheap, though.

Disney’s Mighty Ducks film franchise is beloved by almost an entire generation of hockey fans, so much so that to this day there are those hoping and campaigning for a fourth instalment in the series.

Another Mighty Ducks movie might be a bit of a stretch at this point, though. D3: The Mighty Ducks was released 20 years ago and the original cast would be more likely to play hockey parents than have anything to do with the on-ice product.

Even with the chances of one last hurrah for Charlie Conway and Co. slim, fans of the franchise have kept the love of the movies alive with shirseys and gear that bears the logo or names of the fictional players. And there’s a new piece of merchandise on the market that is sure to draw some interest from nostalgia-loving Mighty Ducks fans: the ‘game-worn’ jersey of Adam Banks, which was used in production of the first movie in 1992.

Of course, the jersey isn’t actually game-worn because — spoiler alert — the Ducks weren’t actually playing any of those games. But the jersey was “screen-used,” as the auction calls it, and worn by Vincent Larusso, who played Banks, the Ducks’ star, in all three of the movies.

Per Invaluable.com, which is hosting the auction:

“Consisting of a long-sleeve hunter green jersey with black, purple and gold accents. The center of the chest features a ‘D-5’ Duck with Hockey stick and ‘Ducks’ patches. The shoulders bear the number ’99’ and the back with ‘Banks’ and a large ’99’. Adam is the most talented and skilled player of the District-5 Ducks. Originally a Hawk, Adam has to prove himself before being accepted by his teammates. In production used fine condition.”

So, what will a fictionally game-worn jersey run you? The starting bid for the item is set at $2,000, and there’s not yet a formal bid on the jersey. Hard to imagine that would be the case if this was a Charlie Conway jersey, but Joshua Jackson, a Vancouver native who played Conway in the franchise, may very well still be in position of his threads from the movie.

The auction closes July 1, which means come the start of free agency, someone will be officially acquiring the jersey of one of the best fictional players to ever step foot on ice on-screen.
