The Calgary Flames returned to work on Tuesday, holding their first official practice since breaking for the 4 Nations Face-off on Sunday, Feb. 19. The club limped into the break on a three-game losing streak, but thankfully, reinforcements are on the way.
Forward Connor Zary and defenseman Kevin Bahl dressed and participated in practice on Tuesday, a welcome sight for teammates and fans.
Bahl suffered an upper-body injury on Jan. 25 in a game against the Minnesota Wild. He's missed the last eight games, and the Flames have stumbled with a 2-5-1 record.
Since coming to Calgary in the Jacob Markström trade, the 24-year-old has two goals and 14 points in 47 games while being plus-1 and averaging 21:18 in ice time a game.
Meanwhile, Zary has been out of action even longer, suffering a lower-body injury on Jan. 7 against the Anaheim Ducks following a knee-on-knee collision with Drew Helleson.
Although the Flames rallied to win that game against the Ducks, they have been 7-7-1 in Zary's absence. When he got hurt, the 23-year-old was the team's third-highest scorer with ten goals and 22 points in 40 games, one of only three players to reach double digits in goals.
The Flames had a full practice squad, minus Ramus Andersson, who played with Sweden at the 4 Nations Face-off.
Calgary returns to action on Sunday night against the San Jose Sharks at the Saddledome. The team currently sits three points back of the Vancouver Canucks for the second wildcard spot in the Western Conference.
