Connor McDavid's Rookie Card Values on the Rise

Connor McDavid has accomplished a lot in his young career including three Hart Trophies, five Art Ross Trophies, four Ted Lindsay Awards, and two-time Espy winner for Best NHL Player.

McDavid is set to compete in his second Western Conference Final as a member of the Edmonton Oilers starting Thursday against the Dallas Stars. The Colorado Avalanche swept the Oilers in the 2022 Western Conference Final.

There are five things that McDavid has yet to accomplish; winning a game in a Conference Final, winning a Conference Final, competing in a Stanley Cup Final, winning the Stanley Cup, and winning a Conn Smythe Trophy.

McDavid has a chance to cross off all of those items on his to-do list in the next four weeks.

What does this mean to his trading card values?

As expected, the Oilers advancing to the Western Conference Final has given McDavid's Upper Deck Young Gun PSA 10 card a bit of helium. The temporary drop in McDavid's Young Gun value was because the Oilers trailed for most of the series against the Vancouver Canucks.

A trip to the Stanley Cup Final would vault McDavid's cards to values never seen before. McDavid hoisting the Stanley Cup could give his rookie card a boost of 30%-50%.

Let us be clear about one thing, McDavid rookie cards will always be a safe investment. There is a reasonable chance that McDavid logs another 1,000 points in the next seven or eight seasons. That would place him second in all-time scoring only behind Wayne Gretzky. 

Will McDavid ever be known as a Stanley Cup champion? He is just four wins away. If you are holding onto McDavid rookie cards, you certainly hope so.
