The Detroit Red Wings have surged to the top of the Atlantic Division, regaining momentum behind another red-hot stretch that has seen them win eight of their last ten games. A major driving force behind that success has been the stellar play of goaltender John Gibson.
Acquired on day two of the 2025 NHL Draft, Gibson arrived in Detroit eager for a fresh start and the opportunity to reestablish himself as a full-time starter. That optimism was quickly tested, however, as he opened the season with a 4-7-1 record and a 3.59 goals-against average through his first 13 appearances, raising early questions about his fit in the Motor City.
Those doubts did not last long. Gibson found his rhythm and then some, returning to top form and elevating his play to another level. The Pittsburgh native went on to win 17 of his next 19 starts, posting an impressive 2.00 goals-against average and a .931 save percentage along the way.
