It'll be a Happy Thanksgiving to numerous teams across the ECHL, as clubs are riding high on win streaks to head into American Thanksgiving today. Others, on the other hand, are not quite so fortunate.
The Greenville Swamp Rabbits and Idaho Steelheads, both tied for the league lead in points with 24 apiece with Kansas City, are knee-deep in a strong five-game win streak.
Northland HockeyThe Swamp Rabbits are coming off a 3-2 victory over the slumping Atlanta Gladiators (who we'll get to later) last night, bringing their overall win/loss record to 12-2 for a rock solid .857 win percentage, with a strong GF/GA ratio of 51/37.
Across to the western conference, it's an identical record and win percentage for the powerhouse Idaho Steelheads after a 5-3 win over the Rapid City Rush. The club currently holds a sparkling GF/GA stat line of 71/43, with Steelheads cornerstone Mark Rassell topping the league in goals with 11, and sitting second in the E with 21 points.
The Iowa Heartlanders will look to push their record-setting win streak to eight games tonight when they face the Fort Wayne Komets on the only Thanksgiving clash in the ECHL.
The Heartlanders, who began the 23-24 season with six straight defeats, have rattled off seven straight victories, good enough for the longest winning streak in team history and the longest active streak in affiliated pro hockey. The Heartlanders knocked off the Kalamazoo Wings last night 3-1 to move into fourth place in the western conference.
It's been a tale of two seasons for the Atlanta Gladiators, who won eight straight games and threatened an ECHL record to kick off the season but have now dropped their last five games. The strong start keeps the club in the hunt as they currently still sit in third in the eastern conference with 16 points.
Finally, the Wichita Thunder and Indy Fuel are both tied for the second-longest losing streak in the ECHL at three games apiece, currently sitting at 10th and 14th in the western conference.
