Former Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Casey DeSmith had yet to dawn a jersey for the Montreal Canadiens, yet he already finds himself outbound toward a new home.
DeSmith was dealt from the Canadiens to the Vancouver Canucks for forward Tanner Pearson and a third-round pick in 2025, having previously been acquired from Pittsburgh in a multi-team deal that saw Norris winner Erik Karlsson move from San Jose to the Steel City on August 6th.
DeSmith, 32, played 13 games for the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL in the 2015-16 season, finishing with a 2.55 goals against average and .915 save percentage.
He signed his first NHL contract with the Penguins in the summer of 2017, remaining in their system until the multi-player trade to Montreal.
In the 2022-23 season, DeSmith compiled a 15-16-4 record through 38 games, with a 3.17 goals against average and a .905 save percentage.
