EDMONTON – Bringing a baby home is a joyous occasion.
As a father of two children six-years-old and younger, I can attest to the joy I felt bringing my children home after their births.
For Edmonton Oilers’ power forward Evander Kane and his fiancee, there are other emotions involved.

In an exclusive story with People, Kane and his fiancée, Mara Teigen, reveal that they’re latest baby was born on March 4th. Their latest bundle of joy is a girl, whom they have named Penelope Monroe.
The couple shared separate Instagram posts describing their experience with the birth and explaining why it took so long to announce Penelope’s arrival.
Mara’s post reads, “Penelope Monroe born at 31 weeks, our sweet strong girl came home after 4 weeks in the NICU. Thank you for teaching me a version of strength and patience that I didn’t know I had.”
“Thank you to my love for being my rock through all of this and taking care of our precious little ones so I could be in the hospital. I have waited my whole life for you, Penelope. We all feel so complete. March 4th, 2025.”
A full-term baby is typically born around 40 weeks, but anything between 37-42 weeks is considered normal. When a baby is born before 37 weeks, it’s not unusual for the baby to spend some time in the NICU.
Kane’s Instagram post echoes similar sentiments as his fiancee’s.
“Proud to announce that Mara and I had our beautiful baby girl Penelope on March 4th, 2025. After 31 days in the NICU she was finally able to come home last week,” Kane said. “Mara, it was incredible to watch your love and attention to Penelope throughout this entire process. We are so thankful that she is finally home, she is having tons of fun with her siblings.”
“Thank you to our doctors and all the NICU staff who helped allow us to bring Penelope home happy and healthy.”
