Connor Bedard and Nick Foligno Faced Off in NHL '94 in Honor of Chelios' Jersey Retirement

On Sunday, the Chicago Blackhawks organization raised Chris Chelios' No. 7 to the rafters ahead of their game against the Detroit Red Wings.

One day before this event, Chicago players Nick Foligno, Connor Bedard, Kevin Korchinski, Taylor Raddysh, MacKenzie Entwistle, Seth Jones, and Alex Vlasic got together in a little room — decorated with Chelios memorabilia along the walls — and went back in time to play the all-time classic NHL '94 video game.

Blackhawks General Manager Kyle Davidson and former Chicago defenseman Brian Campbell (who was a part of the 2010 Stanley Cup winning team), also joined in on the fun.

Most players couldn't believe what they were seeing when they put their eyes on the old SEGA console, "I was born in '94, but I've never seen one of these", Blackhawks defenseman Seth Jones said.

But the savvy old-time veteran Nick Foligno was right in his element as soon as he walked into the room. "This is my first ever console," Foligno said as he approached the SEGA console.

Nick started head bopping as soon as NHL '94's theme song came on, "Oh my god, this brings back a lot of memories," he said with a big smile on his face. It was clear that Foligno may have spent many hours playing NHL '94 back in the day, and we assume he'd have some heated battles against his brother Marcus.

Foligno faced off against Chicago's phenom Connor Bedard. The two give off massive "Big brother" and "Little brother" vibes with how they talk to each other and Foligno's chirps to Bedard.

Hockey fans are loving the 18-year-old and 36-year-old's relationship with their constant back-and-forth banter. While playing the game, Bedard said, "I haven't passed once," to which Foligno snapped back with a snarky "I know, I play with you" chirp.

While Chicago has been disappointing this year as they go along with their rebuild plan, the mentorship and character Nick Foligno has brought to the team — especially for Connor Bedard — can't be understated as to how valuable he is to have around.

People can argue and question why Chicago would give Foligno a two-year contract extension at $4.5 million per year. But it makes complete sense when you see how the two interact and how he has taken Bedard under his wing to mentor him in the 18-year-old’s first NHL season.

NHL '94 was the third installment of the NHL video games series produced by EA SPORTS. The game is considered one of the greatest sports video games of all time.
