Best Songs Of All Time - Chel Edition

Music has always been an important part to any video game. Whether it’s an intense song to build up the tension before a boss fight, or a song to simply vibe to while scrolling through the menus, the soundtrack to any video game can help turn a good game into a great game. This applies also for the EA NHL video games. Mostly tailored to rock music until recently, the soundtracks of NHL games still play in the heads of gamers today whenever someone speaks about a particular game. Some even associate certain songs only with certain NHL games.

But what songs would go on the Mount Rushmore of EA soundtracks throughout the years? Let’s take a dive into the top 6 songs that have been on an EA NHL soundtrack, and for simplicity we’ll only be considering songs from licensed soundtracks.

    In no particular order:

    Red flag - Billy Talent

An NHL 06 absolute classic. Red Flag was a part of Billy Talent’s second album Billy Talent II, arguably one of if not their most iconic album that featured another top single, Fallin Leaves. Late 90s kids will live in the sins of yesterday as they remember the nostalgia of this song in NHL 06, as hearing it in the pre game screens before loading up into your franchise game mode was guaranteed to pump you up.

Joker and the Thief - Wolfmother

Not the only NHL 14 song to be featured on this list, Joker and The Thief is one of those instant classics that any hockey fan should know. From the epic guitar intro that’s bound to pump anyone before the drop of the puck, to the guitar riff leading up to the main chorus, this song was not only an EA NHL classic but a hockey classic. Play this song before any EASHL game and I guarantee your team is putting up 10 goals.

The Boys are Back - Dropkick Murphys

The second NHL 14 song to be featured on this list, if EA ever brings back a game as good as NHL 14 this song needs to be featured on it. Featured on the main trailer for NHL 14, it was a perfectly suited song considering NHL 14 was released before the start of the first full season since the 2012-2013 lockout. Signaling to fans that the boys were back definitely pumped up gamers, which is why NHL 14 to this day is one of the best EA NHL games ever made.

Know Your Enemy - Green Day

NHL 10 brought with it a brand new fighting engine, and what better way to announce this than having a song about knowing who your enemy is as part of the sound track. Loading into the Battle for the Cup mode or Franchise mode and hearing this song gave fans some extra grit and toughness when heading into those matchups, and definitely lead to more fights.

    Young Cardinals - Alexisonfire

Another NHL 10 classic, this song by Canadian post-hardcore band Alexisonfire was another head banger. From the intense guitar on the chorus, to the loud drums in the background this song was the perfect song to rock out to when trying to trade for Toews or Kane from the Blackhawks. While this song was a lot more hardcore than other NHL songs it did not disappoint, and might have even made a few gamers open to the genre.

    Sweetness - Jimmy Eats World

If you never played NHL 03, or haven’t heard this song before you need to give it a listen. There’s a reason why arenas across the NHL have this song as part of their in arena music, and that’s because this song is a bop. Amazing guitar, epic drums, and great vocals create a tune that’s perfect to listen to when scrolling menus, or in an NHL arena between whistles.

Put all 6 of these songs into a single NHL game EA Sports, and I guarantee you that you’ll have a great game.
