Considered to be one of the greatest players to never skate in an NHL game, Sergei Mozyakin has announced his retirement at the age of 40.
Mozyakin ends his career as the all-time KHL leading scorer with 419 goals and 928 points in 842 career games, playoffs and regular season included. Before the formation of the KHL, Mozyakin had 269 points in 298 regular season games in the old Russian Super League, with his 0.96 points-per-game average marking the best among all players with at least 100 games played.
Mozyakin was drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets back in 2002, but never signed a contract and remained in his homeland. Internationally, Mozyakin represented Russia in eight World Championships, winning gold in two of them, silver twice and bronze twice.
Mozyakin only represented Russia once at the Olympics, but helped the team win gold in 2018. Among other accomplishments, Mozyakin won 21 individual major KHL awards and the Gagarin Cup twice while with Metallurg Magnitogorsk.
A Russian hockey legend indeed.
