After spending over three months on the free agent market, a former Chicago Blackhawks first-round pick is heading overseas.
Geneve-Servette of the Switzerland's National League has announced that they have signed former Blackhawks defenseman Adam Boqvist to a two-year contract.
Boqvist heading overseas comes after he spent the 2025-26 season with the New York Islanders. In 18 games with the Islanders last season, he recorded four assists and a minus-9 rating. This was after he posted four goals and 14 points in 35 games split between the Florida Panthers and Islanders in 2024-25.
Boqvist was selected by the Blackhawks in the first round of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, eighth overall. He played just one season for them in 2019-20, though, where he recorded four goals and 13 points in 41 games.
In 272 career NHL games over seven seasons split between the Blackhawks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Panthers, and Islanders, Boqvist recorded 27 goals, 76 assists, and 103 points.
Overall, Boqvist had some decent moments in the NHL, but he was never able to blossom into the high-impact offensive defenseman many believed he would become. Now, the former Blackhawks first-round pick will be looking to make a big impact overseas in Switzerland.
