Former Panthers First-Rounder Signs Extension With HC Fribourg-Gotteron

This former Panthers forward will be staying in Switzerland.

Former Florida Panthers forward Henrik Borgstrom will be staying in Switzerland's National League for a good amount of time.

HC Fribourg-Gotteron has announced that they have signed Borgstrom to a two-year contract extension. 

Borgstrom is currently in his second season with HC Fribourg-Gotteron. In two games for them so far this season, he has recorded two assists. This is after he had 11 goals and 39 points in 47 games with the National League club during this past season. 

Before heading to Switzerland, Borgstrom played his two previous seasons with HV71 of the Swedish Hockey League.

Borgstrom last played at the NHL level during the 2022-23 season with the Washington Capitals. However, he played in just one game for the Capitals that season, where he was held off the scoresheet.

Borgstrom was selected by the Panthers in the first round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, 23rd overall. In 111 games over five NHL seasons split between the Panthers, Chicago Blackhawks, and Capitals, he posted 13 goals, 26 points, and a minus-31 rating.
