A former SHL goalie is getting another opportunity in the NHL.
This is because the Ottawa Senators have called up goalie Jonas Johansson from the Belleville Senators of the AHL.
Johansson getting called up to the Senators' roster is in response to Linus Ullmark getting injured in the club's most recent game against the Boston Bruins. Now, Johansson is getting his first chance on Ottawa's roster.
The Senators acquired Johansson from the Tampa Bay Lightning ahead of this season in exchange for future considerations. This was after the Lightning placed him on waivers, and he went unclaimed.
Johansson appeared in 25 games last season for the Lightning, where he had an 11-10-2 record, an .884 save percentage, and a 3.29 goals-against average.
Before making the switch to North America, Johansson developed his game in Sweden. This included him playing in four SHL seasons with Brynas IF. However, he primarily played with Brynas IF's U20 team and Almtuna IF of HockeyAllsvenskan.
