Germany has announced its roster for the Deutschland Cup, which it will host in Landshut Nov. 7 to 10. The other three teams are Denmark, Slovakia and Austria.
It’s an experienced lineup. Of the 25 players named, 17 have World Championship experience and six were on the 2024 team in Czechia. All of the players come from Germany’s DEL except for defenseman Phillip Sinn, who plays in Austria for Red Bull Salzburg.
The team includes Tom Kühnhackl, who is a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Pittsburgh Penguins, former San Jose Shark Lean Bergmann, and Leon Gawanke, who was a one-time prospect for the Winnipeg Jets and Sharks.
“We are looking forward to an internationally experienced squad and are going into the Deutschland Cup with a strong lineup,” said German head coach Harold Kreis. “Many of the players we have with us this time play a key role in their clubs. Of course, we want to win and make the tournament a success. At the same time, we want to give the players positive impulses for the rest of the season during our days together. During the selection phase, we also agreed to take a break from playing with some national players so that they will only be used again during World Championship preparations. This is our usual procedure.”
