After playing the better part of the past seven seasons in North America, Swedish forward Lias Andersson is headed back to Europe. The 25-year-old has signed a two-year contract with EHC Biel-Bienne, the Swiss club announced on Wednesday.
“Lias Andersson is a flexible forward who will enrich our offensive game with his versatility and skill. He is able to play in various positions up front and adapt to the requirements of the game situations both offensively and defensively,” said club GM Martin Steinegger.
Anderson was chosen seventh overall by the New York Rangers in 2017, but never lived up to the potential. He went overseas during the 2018-19 season at age 20, despite having only accumulated 38 points in 106 SHL regular-season and playoff games to that point with HV71 and Frölunda.
Since then, he has played in ony 110 NHL games with the Rangers and Los Angeles Kings, scoring seven goals and adding 10 assists. He spent all of last season in the Montreal Canadiens organization with the AHL’s Laval Rocket, recording 45 points in 53 games.
