Canisius assistant coach Daniel Paille is leaving the program to pursue another coaching opportunity, the team announced Friday.
Paille, a veteran of 11 NHL seasons, first joined the Golden Griffins in 2019-20 as a volunteer assistant coach. Spending two seasons in that role, Paille moved up to an assistant coach role prior to the 2021-22 season and has held that role ever since.
Drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the first round of the 2002 NHL Draft, Paille would go on to play 657 games in the NHL, collecting 94 goals and 97 assists for 191 points.
Paille spent parts of five seasons playing with the Sabres before being dealt to the Boston Bruins in Oct. 2009. He played for the Bruins from 2009-2015, winning a Stanley Cup with the team in 2011 before spending one final season in North America split between the New York Rangers and the AHL.
Going overseas to Sweden in 2016, Paille spent two years playing for Brynas IF (SHL) before hanging up his skates.
While it is unknown what opportunity Paille is pursuing at this time, he will be a coach to pay attention to as he continue to progress in his career.
