Thompson spent time in both the AHL and Germany this past season

Former North Dakota defenseman Keaton Thompson has signed a one-year deal with Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod in the KHL, it was announced Friday.

A product of Devils Lake, N.D., Thompson spent time with both the Milwaukee Admirals (AHL) and Adler Mannheim (DEL) in 2023-24. In 12 regular season games with the Admirals, Thompson had two points. With Adler Mannheim, he had one goal and two assists for three points in six regular season games.

Thompson also spent time with Adler Mannheim in the playoffs, collecting two points in seven games.

Drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in the third round of the 2013 NHL Draft, Thompson spent three seasons at North Dakota from 2013-2016. In 105 career games, he scored eight goals and added 28 assists for 36 points.

With Thompson choosing to remain overseas, this will be his first full season of professional hockey not in North America. With the KHL being viewed by many as one of the top leagues in the world, it will be interesting to see how well Thompson will fare.
