Sergei Belski-USA TODAY Sports - Harvard to Hire Matt Gilroy as Assistant Coach

Harvard is in the midst of hiring Matt Gilroy as an assistant coach, Mark Divver reported Tuesday.

Hailing from North Bellmore, N.Y., Gilroy has spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach with the U.S. NTDP.

Prior to getting into coaching in 2020, Gilroy enjoyed a 10-year pro career that saw him suit up in the NHL (New York Rangers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Ottawa Senators, Florida Panthers), AHL (Hartford Wolf Pack, Connecticut Whale & San Antonio Rampage), KHL and Switzerland.

Gilroy also spent four years at Boston University, collecting 92 points in 160 career games and winning the Hobey Baker in 2009.

After retiring in 2019, Gilroy's first coaching gig came during the 2020-21 season when he served as an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Jr. Kings 14U AAA team. After one season with the Jr. Kings, he moved into his role with the U.S. NTDP where he has been the last two years.

With Gilroy now making the jump to the NCAA, he will be a valuable addition to the Crimson. With his NCAA and pro experience as a player, Gilroy knows what it takes to succeed at both levels and should be a strong mentor for all the players on the team.
