Mathieu is currently playing for the QMJHL's Rimouski Oceanic
Rimouski Oceanic forward Jacob Mathieu has committed to Northeastern, it was announced last week.
Mathieu, currently serving as the captain of the Oceanic, is in his final season of junior eligibility where he has collected 34 goals and 19 assists for 53 points in 44 games.
Drafted by the Oceanic in the third round of the 2020 QMJHL Entry Draft, Mathieu has played in 235 regular season games for the team, putting up 109 goals and 79 assists for 188 points. He has also appeared in 29 playoff games, accumulating 10 points.
With Mathieu joining the Huskies this fall, he is the first QMJHL player to commit to the team. As someone who needs little time to capitalize on scoring chances, Mathieu's scoring prowess should translate to the NCAA level and make him a reliable option out of the gates.
