Los Angeles Kings defensive prospect Jack Sparkes is heading to Clarkson to join the Golden Knights, Brad Elliott Schlossman reported Thursday.
Sparkes, drafted by the Kings in the sixth round of the 2022 NHL Draft, was initially committed to Michigan State.
A product of Ottawa, Ont., Sparkes split time this past season between the Muskegon Lumberjacks (USHL) and the Chilliwack Chiefs (BCHL). In 14 games with the Lumberjacks, Sparkes had three points. With the Chiefs, he scored two goals and added seven assists for nine points in 30 regular season games.
Standing at 6-foot-8, Sparkes knows how to use his size to shut down opponents in the defensive zone and that should translate well to the NCAA. Although he will most likely take the full four years to develop, Sparkes will be one to watch in the Kings system.
