Savage finished his first season with the Spartans in 2023-24 after transferring from Miami (Ohio)

The Michigan State Spartans have named senior forward Red Savage captain ahead of the 2024-25 season, it was announced Tuesday.

Joining Savage in wearing letters for the Spartans is junior defenseman Matt Basgall, junior forward Karsen Dorwart and junior forward Tiernan Shoudy.

Drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the fourth round of the 2021 NHL Draft, Savage just wrapped up his first season with the Spartans and third in the NCAA after transferring from Miami (Ohio) last summer.

In 38 games played this past season, Savage scored 10 goals and added 17 assists for 27 points. Over the course of his NCAA career, he has collected 57 points in 105 games.

As Savage heads into his senior season, he will be relied upon to lead the Spartans on and off the ice. While his numbers were solid with the RedHawks, his game flourished under head coach Adam Nightingale in 2023-24. With the Red Wings closely monitoring his game, it would not be surprising to see him sign a deal with the team next spring.
