Absolute perfection. There's simply no other way to put it. When the average fan thinks of college hockey, this jersey is what often comes to mind first. Since the classic "M" was introduced in 1972 [https://history.vintagemnhockey.com/page/show/893654-u-of-m-uniform-evolution-1922-2014-], little about it has changed. Following the University's "enhanced partnership [https://gophersports.com/news/2025/9/10/mens-hockey-u-enhances-partnership-with-ccm-hockey]" with CCM on Sept 10, 2025, a new iteration of the Gophers' home sweater was born. It preserves almost all of the legendary look, adding just a few subtle improvements. Two of the more noticeable ones are both in the collar area. In professional hockey, including the NHL, the league shield is placed between the front opening of the collar. The Gophers apply that concept to the State of Hockey, adding an outline of their home in that same spot. This contributes as sense of shared community, visualizing that they all play for Minnesota. A second collar detail is the motto "Pride On Ice" printed on the back panel. Those words in such a specific location no doubt motivates players looking at their hanging jerseys. Aside from those pair of changes, not much else was altered–and that's a good thing. CCM didn't mess with the success Minnesota's "M" brand has built. Minnesota had a down year, going 11-22-3. Sophomore Brodie Ziemer led the Gophers with 23 goals and 36 points while Freshman LJ Mooney racked up a team high 23 assists. Ultimately, the 2025-26 season came to a close at the hands of Penn State in the Big Ten Tournament Quarterfinals. The Gophers had a very active transfer portal, securing the services of impact performers including Austin Burnevik and Melvin Strahl. The addition of incoming players like Jacob Kvasnicka, Mace'o Phillips and Axel Löfgren to the mix means that Minnesota could flip their record around in just one year. I eagerly await seeing this piece of art return to the ice on a fresh batch of Gophers.
