The Washington Capitals will place former North Dakota forward T.J. Oshie on long-term injured reserve, it was announced Wednesday.

Oshie, who suited up for the Fighting Hawks between 2005-2008, appeared in 52 regular season games for Washington last season where he scored 12 goals and added 13 assists for 25 points.

Drafted in the first round of the 2005 NHL Draft by the St. Louis Blues, Oshie made the Blues roster in 2008 and never looked back.

Since that time, he has suited up for the Blues and the Capitals, scoring 301 goals and adding 393 assists for 694 points in 1010 career NHL regular season games.

A great player during his NCAA years as well, Oshie collected 142 points in 129 career games across three seasons at North Dakota. Besides being a point per game player, Oshie was also named to the WCHA All-Tournament Team twice, the WCHA First-All Star and First All-American Team as well as being named a Hobey Baker finalist.

In a statement released by the Capitals Wednesday, Oshie spoke about his ongoing effort to recover from his back injury:

"The last season was challenging for me, my family, and my teammates as I dealt with a chronic back injury that kept me out of the lineup. I have used the offseason to explore and pursue long-term solutions for my injury," Oshie said. "I remain committed to the process and am working and doing my best to regain total health. In the meantime, I will continue to help and support my teammates and the organization in any way I can. I greatly appreciate all of our fans' support during this time."
