Quinn Hughes has been tied to rumors all season about eventually joining the New Jersey Devils once his current deal expires.

On a recent episode of the Spittin’ Chiclets podcast, co-host Ryan Whitney shared a story he had heard suggesting Hughes could join his brothers in New Jersey by 2027.

“I was talking to somebody this weekend who was told Quinn Hughes will be on the New Jersey Devils in two years,” Whitney said. “It’s funny, kind of upsetting, because I don’t want good things to happen to you [Pasha] professionally hockey-wise.”

Quinn’s name has frequently been linked to the Devils, given that his two brothers, Jack and Luke, are already part of the roster. He has also expressed interest in playing alongside them someday. However, Hughes is currently under contract with the Vancouver Canucks through the 2026–27 season, now in year five of his six-year deal. That makes any near-term move unlikely.

Canucks President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford has acknowledged the possibility of Hughes leaving down the road.

“[Quinn] has said before he wants to play with his brothers,” Rutherford said. “That would be partly out of our control — in our control if we brought his brothers here.”

Realistically, that scenario seems unlikely. Both Jack and Luke are firmly tied to New Jersey. Luke is expected to sign a new deal this offseason, with indications pointing toward a long-term extension alongside Jack.

Jack, now the face of the Devils franchise, signed an eight-year, $64 million contract in 2022, a deal often cited as one of the league’s best bargains. He’s entering year four of that contract, with no signs of leaving Newark.

From Leon Draisaitl’s eight-year, $14 million AAV deal (ranked 6th) to Brandon Hagel’s seven-year, $6.5 million AAV contract (ranked 2nd), some of the league’s biggest stars made the list.

That leaves Quinn as the more feasible option to join his siblings down the line.

For now, teammates in Vancouver have tried to temper the speculation. Defenseman Tyler Myers recently addressed the chatter:

“I know it’s a big story around the hockey world, but everyone makes it more than it is,” Myers said. “He doesn’t like all that speculation.”

Whitney echoed that point on his podcast, noting that while New Jersey could be in Quinn’s future, the rumors remain just that, for the future. The Canucks have little to worry about in the short term, while the Devils may simply have something exciting to look forward to in a couple of years: the possibility of all three Hughes brothers on the same roster.
