The 2024 NHL Stadium Series is headed to MetLife Stadium in New Jersey for Metropolitan Division rival showdowns on Feb. 17 and 18.
MetLife Stadium in New Jersey hosts two NFL teams – the New York Jets and New York Giants. In February 2024, it will also host two NHL outdoor regular-season games.
The NHL announced Saturday afternoon the 2024 Stadium Series is scheduled to feature the Philadelphia Flyers taking on the New Jersey Devils on Feb. 17, while the New York Rangers will face the New York Islanders on Feb. 18.
This will be the first time four teams will play outdoor games in front of fans in the same venue. Four teams played at Lake Tahoe during the 2020-21 season affected by COVID-19, but it was closed to the general public.
The Feb. 17 matchup is scheduled to be the 40th NHL outdoor game all-time. The 2023 Heritage Classic between the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers on Oct. 29 and the 2024 Winter Classic between the Vegas Golden Knights and Seattle Kraken on Jan. 1 are scheduled ahead of the Stadium Series.
The Islanders and Devils have only played one outdoor game each, and they both resulted in regulation losses. The Flyers, meanwhile, have been in five regular-season outdoor games but only have a 1-3-1 record to show for it. But the Rangers are a perfect 4-0-0 in their outdoor appearances, which is tied with the Boston Bruins for the most outdoor wins.
In a year where the Florida Panthers made the Stanley Cup final after making the playoffs by just one point, these will be important games for the four Metropolitan Division rivals while the second half of the 2023-24 season is in its early stages. The Devils finished the highest of the four in 2022-23, with 112 points and a playoff series win over the Rangers, who had 107 points. The Islanders will look to improve off a first-round exit after compiling 93 points in the regular season, and the Philadelphia Flyers could try to play spoilers as they look destined for a rebuild after a 75-point year.
Additional details on the Stadium Series, including ticket information, will come at a later date, the NHL said.
