The NHL is a copycat league. Always has been, always will be. When teams see something that works, they fall in line pretty quickly to replicate it.

So if you're a fan of off-ice fireworks, buckle up because being a cowboy GM seems to be the current recipe for success. 

The past two Stanley Cups have been won by GMs - Bill Zito and Kelly McCrimmon - who are completely unfazed by making monumental, blockbuster, swing-for-the-fences transactions. And if you want to include Julien BriseBois - as you should - in that group, that means four of the past five Stanley Cups have been won by such GMs.

So, if other GMs are taking notes, the next couple of weeks should produce an off-ice fireworks show.
