AHL’s Texas Stars go Victory Green, unveil sleek new logo

The Texas Stars will be sporting new threads for the 2015-16 season and they’ll be using a new logo. The team unveiled the new logo, secondary mark and word mark Thursday. The team scrapped the gold color that was previously used in favor of the Stars’ unique Victory Green.

The season of change in the AHL continues to roll on, but this time the new isn’t change of location, affiliation or staff. No, this change is purely aesthetic as the Texas Stars have unveiled their new logo for the 2015-16 campaign.

The Stars – who at this time in 2013-14 were playing in the Calder Cup final, a series they would go on to win in five games – announced Thursday that they’ll be changing their primary and secondary marks for the upcoming season. The new logo, which does away with the previous gold color that was used by Dallas’ AHL club, is similar to the color scheme the NHL’s Stars use, which likely means similar changes are coming to the uniform.

“The colors and themes have worked so well in Dallas and they’ve become synonymous with Stars Hockey,” said owner Tom Gaglardi. “It’s exciting for us to have the Texas Stars represented in the same Victory Green that we take great pride in.”

The green used in the Stars’ jerseys – and yes, it is called Victory Green – does stand out as one of the most unique colors in the league and it’s nice to see the continuity between the NHL and AHL. More often in the past few years, farm clubs have adopted the look of their major league partner. For instance, the returning Manitoba Moose will drop the unique green, brown and black color scheme for their first season back in Winnipeg, instead using the Jets’ colors. The IceCaps, formerly the Jets’ AHL club but now affiliated with the Canadiens, have switched their jerseys to Montreal’s red, blue and white.

"An updated look reflects a new era in the history of our franchise," said Texas Stars president and alternate governor Rick McLaughlin. "We've spent our six-year existence developing players as the Dallas Stars' primary affiliate, and last December we began a transition into new ownership, led by Tom Gaglardi. Wearing the Victory Green next season completes that transition into one unified operation, and the color stands out among all the other AHL clubs."

While the logo isn’t a far cry from what the AHL Stars previously used on their road jerseys, the updated color scheme does make it look fresh. In the transition, the Stars also drop the previous primary logo, one that harkened back to the original Dallas Stars logo.
