Kadri can’t be the savior

Let me say at the outset I am a huge fan of the London Knights, Nazem Kadri, the Toronto Maple Leafs and Brian Burke.

But before any of us stake out our piece of Bay Street concrete waiting for the Cup parade, let me throw out a few names: Colin Wilson, Jakub Voracek, Kyle Okposo, Jake Skille, Rostislav Olesz, Ryan Suter, Joffrey Lupul, Mike Komisarek, Lars Jonsson, Kyle Beech, Manny Malhotra, Paul Mara, Erik Rasmussen; the previous 13 No. 7 overall picks.

Some serviceable players, for sure, but no one to call a franchise building block.

You have to go back to 1995 and Shane Doan to find a “go to stud” drafted in that position and he accumulated only 16 goals and 40 points in his first 170 NHL games.

I hope my pessimism is unfounded, but I think Blue and White fans need to show continued patience.

I know it is one of the few virtues I have left.
