Avs D Liles extends season-opening point streak to 9 games, setting NHL record
VANCOUVER - Colorado Avalanche defenceman John-Michael Liles extended his point streak to nine games Tuesday, setting an NHL record for the longest streak to open a season by a defenceman.
Liles assisted on Daniel Winnik's second-period goal in a game against the Vancouver Canucks. Liles, a 29-year-old Indianapolis native, surpassed the previous mark of eight set by Philip Kuba of the Ottawa Senators in 2008-09.
Brad Park of the Boston Bruins had the record of seven since 1981-82 before Andrei Markov of Montreal tied it in 2008-09 and then Kuba surpassed it the same season.
