A busy lead-up to the trade deadline continues for Doug Armstrong.

The St. Louis Blues took care of some internal business on Thursday, agreeing to terms with forward Sammy Blais on a one-year contract extension worth $1 million.

Blais is in the final year of his current contract which pays him a cap hit of $1.525 million and would have been an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season.

It seems as if St. Louis is where Blais is meant to be.

After a disappointing tenure with the New York Rangers that saw Blais go goalless over two full seasons, the 26-year-old was shipped back to the organization that drafted him as part of the Blues' return in the Vladimir Tarasenko trade and looks more comfortable than ever.

In nine games with the Blues this season, Blais has racked up two goals and one assist for three points, logging nearly 14 minutes per game in average nightly ice time, which is a massive jump up from the roughly nine minutes he was receiving in New York.

With the certainty of a new extension under his belt, perhaps Blais can begin to get his career back on track and become the crash-and-bang winger many expected him to be.
