Brad Marchand takes hilarious dive after Eric Gelinas trip

Brad Marchand’s attempt to draw a penalty call Friday night didn’t work, but it’s good for a laugh. After taking an Eric Gelinas chop to the skate, Marchand did a full somersault and ended up with his legs above his head.

There is diving and then there is performance art. Friday night, Brad Marchand presented us with the latter.

In overtime of the Boston Bruins’ game against the New Jersey Devils, Marchand took one of the most hilarious dives there will likely ever be. After Reilly Smith put a puck on goal in the extra frame, Marchand followed the puck to the net and was chopped in the foot by Devils defenseman Eric Gelinas. And what was Marchand’s reaction? Flying, rolling and finally coming to a stop with his legs above his head, of course.

Thankfully, there was no penalty call either way on the play so we simply get to enjoy the ridiculousness of Marchand’s attempt to draw a call. When you do a somersault following a trip, there might be a little bit of acting going on, and that’s the case here with Marchand.

The Bruins went on to win 3-2 in overtime thanks to Ryan Spooner’s first career goal, putting them four points up on the Florida Panthers for the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference.
