Brett Hull takes on new role with Dallas Stars, ends TV career

The 43-year-old will not return to NBC next season after being named Tuesday as a special advisor to hockey operations for the Dallas Stars.

"I have always wanted to help a team win the Stanley Cup from the business side of things," said Hull. "I am excited about this next challenge in my life and look forward to working with the entire hockey operations department on a deeper level."

Hull spent one year as an analyst for NBC while also working as a special assistant to the Stars president.

He retired in 2005 after a 19-year career that saw him score 741 goals, which is third on the all-time list. Hull scored the winning goal when the Stars won the Stanley Cup in 1999 - one of two NHL championships he won.

Also Tuesday, the Stars named Dave Taylor as the club's director of player personnel.

Taylor spent nine seasons as the general manager of the Los Angeles Kings before being fired in 2006. He served as the Kings director of amateur development last season.

"Dave brings a wealth of experience and success from his general manager days to his playing days that will prove invaluable to this organization," said Stars GM Doug Armstrong. "We are very happy to have him on board with our club and believe he will be a great asset to the Dallas Stars organization."
