Bruins' Rask makes young cancer patient's wish come true, creates custom-made goalie mask for her

Bruins star goalie Tuukka Rask recently met a nine-year-old cancer patient and made her wish come true – not only by bringing her on the ice to take part in an NHL practice, but also by commissioning a very special goalie mask for her.

In mid-March, Boston Bruins netminder Tuukka Rask worked with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to delight nine-year-old Maddie Santotuosso, a Boston-area girl fighting a rare tissue cancer, when he visited her at a local sporting goods store and helped her pick out brand new goaltender equipment. The youngster and huge Bruins fan was thrilled to meet one of her idols. (Her story begins at the 9:40 mark of this video.)

However, Rask's act of kindness didn't end there.

Once Santotuosso received her goalie pads and a No. 40 Boston jersey, she needed a mask like Rask's to look identical to the Bruins star. And Rask ensured she did by commissioning his own goalie mask artist, Ron Slater, to make one that matched his NHL version almost perfectly. (Images via @CapitalsHill)

Rask and Slater added a personal touch for Santotuosso, changing the back of the mask from the Finnish flag that adorns Rask's version to include a yellow cancer awareness ribbon and the words "kick sarcoma", the form of the disease the youngster is battling.

Santotuosso wore the mask when she took part in a March 26 practice with Rask and the rest of the Bruins:

Whether or not you're a Bruins fan, you'd have to agree Rask deserves a standing ovation for that.
