The Boston Bruins sure know how to celebrate a win.
Minutes after defeating the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night, the Bruins announced a major piece of news, agreeing to terms with forward Pavel Zacha on a four-year contract extension worth an average annual value of $4.75 million.
The details of the deal, which ties Zacha to Boston through the 2026-27 season, such as its salary structure and inclusion of any trade protection, have yet to be determined.
Zacha has clearly experienced quite the turnaround over the past calendar year.
After seven underwhelming years with the New Jersey Devils to begin his career, Zacha has since found a home in Boston following an off-season trade, slotting in perfectly on the wing in the Bruins' top six thus far and racking up five goals and 20 assists for 25 points in 42 games this season.
While Zacha's goal total seems somewhat underwhelming, the former sixth-overall pick in 2015 is shooting just 7.9 percent on the season, a far cry from his 10.7 percent career average, suggesting that more production could be in his future.
There's also the matter of the $4.75-million annual price tag, which might seem a tad steep, but Zacha has shown the ability to drive possession in the Bruins' system and has since established himself as a quality middle-six forward.
The rich keep getting richer. And the Bruins, who are on pace for a historic season, are playing with house money.
