With 18 non-Canadian captains, there have never been so many Americans and Europeans wearing the 'C' in NHL history, says Ken Campbell.

There was once a time when you wouldn't even be considered to lead an NHL team unless you had maple syrup flowing through your veins. Those days are over.

And it has never been more apparent than in the 2024-25 season, where more non-Canadians (18) than Canadians (14) are wearing the 'C' for their respective teams.

And with two of the last three Stanley Cup winners being captained by European players, there has been a huge global shift in leadership on NHL teams.
