The Calgary Flames have appointed Craig Conroy to the role of GM, replacing Brad Treliving.

The Calgary Flames are keeping it in the family.
The Flames pulled back the curtain on the news everyone had been waiting for on Monday, officially announcing the appointment of Craig Conroy to the role of GM, replacing Brad Treliving, who parted ways with the club in April.
In addition, the Flames also announced the appointment of former Maple Leafs and Canucks GM Dave Nonis to the senior VP of hockey operations and assistant GM. The Flames also extended Brad Pascall as VP of hockey operations and AGM, and they appointed Chris Snow to VP of data and analytics on top of AGM.
It does seem as if Conroy was the obvious choice all along. The New York native has been a Flames lifer for the majority of his time in the NHL, spending nine total seasons in Calgary during his playing days spread across two separate tenures. Upon his retirement in 2011, which he did as a member of the Flames, Conroy joined the Flames' front office as a special assistant to then-GM Jay Feaster before eventually graduating to the role of assistant GM under Treliving, where he proceeded to serve nine years until his appointment today.
Reportedly, Conroy played a large role in the Flames' pursuit of collegiate free agents throughout his time as assistant GM, a pipeline that has provided the organization with the likes of Matt Coronato, Garnet Hathaway, Matthew Phillips, and former franchise face Johnny Gaudreau.
With Conroy now on board, the Flames can now shift their focus to their head coaching vacancy as the club looks to find a candidate to replace the sour taste left by former bench boss Darryl Sutter.
