Liiga's Tappara team terminated the contract of Topi Ronni after announcing he received a one-year suspended sentence for rape in a Helsinki court.

The Calgary Flames renounced the rights to unsigned prospect Topi Ronni after he received a one-year suspended prison sentence for rape in Finland.

Ronni's Liiga team, Tappara, announced earlier on March 12 that Ronni received the suspended sentence in Helsinki District Court.

Back in October 2023, Ronni left Tappara briefly after he received a court summons in relation to an allegation of rape. The announcement at the time said the alleged crime took place two years earlier when Ronni was a minor.

Now 19, Ronni is no longer part of Tappara or the Flames organization. He apologized to all parties involved in Tappara's news release.

Calgary drafted the center in the second round, 59th overall, in 2022. He had two points in 22 games at the Liiga level and 32 points in 20 games at the U-20 level.
