Update: The NHL Department of Player Safety suspended Vancouver Canucks defenseman Carson Soucy for one playoff game.
The original story follows.
A post-game cross-check could lead to a suspension for Vancouver Canucks defenseman Carson Soucy.
The NHL Department of Player Safety announced Soucy will have a hearing for cross-checking Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid. The date and time are to be decided, but the Canucks and Oilers play again in Tuesday's Game 4.
After Edmonton tried unsuccessfully to force overtime late in Sunday's Game 3, Soucy gave McDavid an initial push behind the Canucks net. McDavid responded by slashing the defenseman, catching Vancouver's Nikita Zadorov attention.
Zadorov cross-checked McDavid from behind while Soucy wound up for a cross-check, appearing to catch McDavid in the face.
Zadorov received a $5,000 fine, the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement, for his cross-check.
Soucy was suspended for one game in March 2021 for a high hit on then-Arizona Coyotes winger Conor Garland. He was also fined $2,500 in November 2022 for roughing then-Winnipeg Jets center Pierre-Luc Dubois.
The 29-year-old has four assists in nine games this post-season while averaging 17:26 of ice time per game.
