The Vancouver Canucks have signed defenseman Carson Soucy to a three-year contract worth an average annual value of $3.25 million.
The flurry of blueline signings continues to rage on.
The Vancouver Canucks added another body to its defense corps on Saturday, agreeing to terms with defenseman Carson Soucy on a three-year contract worth an average annual value of $3.25 million.
The deal ties Soucy to Vancouver through the 2025-26 season and lands the Canucks their coveted big defender, likely spelling the end of Tyler Myers' tenure with the club after his signing bonus is paid on July 1.
Soucy brings a very specific type of value to a team in the modern NHL. The 28-year-old is huge, a stopper in his own zone, and can move the puck with decent quickness. But he doesn’t chip in offensively at all, finishing the 2022-23 campaign with just three goals and 13 assists for 16 points in 78 games while logging just over 16 minutes of average nightly ice time.
Given how one-dimensional his game is, $3.25 million is a lot of annual money to give a player like Soucy while failing to add speed or versatility to a Canucks blueline that already lacks it.
Stay tuned. More moves are continuing to roll in as the day progresses.
