What a way to kick-off 2022.

Vancouver Canucks assistant equipment manager Brian Hamilton was just doing his job when an unknown hockey fan ultimately helped save his life.

On Oct. 23, while the Canucks were playing the Kraken at Seattle's debut home game, a local fan spotted a growth on the back of Hamilton's neck. Nadia Popovici wrote a note on her phone saying she was concerned about the mole, catching Hamilton's attention.

Popovici, who is set to attend medal school later this year, was familiar with what she saw, which turned out to be malignant melanoma, a form of cancer. Hamilton quickly got it checked out, and he reported that it's gone thanks to the hard work of doctors. The whole event went viral on Saturday as the Canucks posted a statement from Hamilton saying he was seeking out the fan that helped him out that fall evening.

A reply later in the day got Popovici in contact with the team, with a meeting taking prior to Vancouver's return visit to Seattle on Saturday.

The Canucks posted a video of the encounter, which will definitely invoke a teardrop or two. Take a look:

And it gets better: both the Canucks and Kraken banded together to give Popovici a $10,000 scholarship for medical school for the act of kindness.

What a truly special story.
