The Washington Capitals have reportedly reached an agreement to purchase the website CapFriendly, a popular tool to track NHL salaries, contracts and other information.
Per Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Capitals will officially purchase the website in July, and after that, the website will go dark and no longer be publicly available for use. It deals with other NHL teams who use CapFriednly's tools and programming will have their contracts terminated as well.
Friedman added that the sale will not happen until at least July 5 with both Washington and CapFriendly wanting the website to be available to the public and independently operated through the 2024 NHL Draft and the start of free agency.
Teams and the public will likely now turn to PuckPedia, an alternative to CapFriendly.
