Christian Fischer discussed his retirement from the NHL at 28 in an interview with The Athletic. He is moving on to a new business opportunity in the golf world with a friend in Arizona, and he said he's happy being around and family and with his life in Scottsdale, Ariz. He played his first seven NHL seasons with the Arizona Coyotes.

Congratulations to him for a NHL career of 523 games played in the regular season and nine post-season games. Clearly this is an example of a player who came into the Coyotes organization, got connected with the area and is staying involved in the area, which bodes well for the case of giving Arizona another shot at making an NHL franchise work there. What do you think? And are there any other hockey players you can think of who retired earlier than expected to pursue other opportunities?
