Fighting is already "banned: in any hockey league, since fighters receive at least a major penalty. But in 2023, the QMJHL decided to eject any fighter from the game and suspend any fighter for one game for their second fight of the season. The instigator also gets a one-game suspension, while an aggressor gets two games.
The OHL has a three-fight rule, where a player gets suspended for two games for each subsequent fight. The WHL assesses a misconduct to anyone who tries to remove their or their opponent's helmet.
Earlier this year, the Office of the Sports Integrity Commissioner urged Hockey Canada to push for fighting to be eliminated across all junior leagues.
