Wayne Gretzky scored 1,016 NHL goals in the regular season and playoffs combined. Those are the most career goals by a player in NHL history. Regular-season goals leader Alex Ovechkin, who just had a maze created in his honor, is in second, with 974.

Ovechkin needs just 43 goals to pass Gretzky for the most in the regular season and playoffs. I don't say this as a slight to the monumental regular-season all-time goals record, but it would be great entertainment to see Ovechkin continue his scoring tear from last season, go on another Gr8 chase and capture this record as well. What do you think?
